Kayla's Bedroom is Decorated!
Though it is not completely finished, here it is!! We still have moulding to put up where the brown meets the pink on three of the walls and we still have closet doors to hang and a couple of other things.
I tried to make the room appropriate for my tween while still taking into consideration my 4 year old who also shares the room with Kayla. And I wanted to retain a "classic" look too without going too trendy.
Hopefully I achieved all of that.

The striped wall is the accent wall.
The curtains that I couldn't quit talking about!! They really were not that much work, it just took awhile to go to enough stores to get all the ribbon that I needed! They are made of a taffeta type material and have a bit of a sheen to them. I love the texture and it is nice that they do not hardly wrinkle!
Another shot of the bedroom.
Another wall, we are still working on this side.
And finally the birthday girl, herself!! Kayla will officially be 11 tomorrow as of 6:05 AM.
Oh, and just for fun. Below is what the curtains look like when they are down.

Wow! Kari, you did a wonderful job! Love the paint colors you picked out as well as the curtains. I bet your girls are so excited! I'm sure they will enjoy it for years to come.
WOW! That looks fabulous Kari! What a ton of work that was, though (painting stripes is a lot of work!).
And great new pic of you, too!!!
The room looks great Kari! You guys did a great job! :)
Ph, Kari...it turned out just beautiful. It is just the right mix of trendy and elegant! The stripes look so good too--like it was painted by a professional (did Laren help and get the plumb line just right?) I really LOVE the new picture you posted of yourself too.
so so so cute, kari!! i am WAY impressed - the colors are beautiful. and those curtains - soooo cute!! you are amazing, as always!!
The room looks fantastic! Well done, you guys! Any girl would love that room.
Krista,
I did the plumb line, I used a 4 ft. long level (of Laren's) and just made sure the hash marks I made matched up and that the bubble was where it should be and I drew a pencil line around the wall and it was a snap.
Really easy to get the straight line. And then I used a sponge brush to get the brown "perfect" on the line.
So cute Kari. I attempted stripes in one of my girls' rooms three different times but the paint kept bleeding through underneath the tape. I think it was the texture on the walls, so I gave up. The curtains looks great and look like they were hard to do.
I bet they love their new room. I am going to do pink and brown in my oldest daughter's room when we move.
Angie,
Go to Home Depot and in a smallish tube (not too small but not a regular size tube either) get what they call paintable caulk. It fills in all the gaps from the texture on the walls so you can get a straight line.
Looks so great! You did a fantastic job!! She's beautiful too!
WOW! What talent, that is just beautiful! What a lucky girl.
Are you for hire? Taylor wants her room almost identical like that. It turned out great!! How did you do the stripes without bleeding through?
oh my GOSH! That is the coolest room in the WORLD!!!
