Some more discouraging news...

*Last night as I was down having the greatest "runners high" working out on the elliptical and listening to some internet radio, a really uplifting piece from Glenn Beck on Jon Huntsman, Jr., we got an upsetting phone call.

The call was from Laren's sister saying their Dad had had a heart attack and was in the hospital. I guess he was shoveling snow when the heart attack occured. Ironically, he is in the same hospital that my Dad was in right before he died. Laren's Dad lives in New Mexico but is visiting family in Spokane, WA where he had the heart attack.

*The other little tidbit of difficulty happened this morning. I dressed in my workout clothes so I could get my workout out of the way this morning so I wouldn't be up late tonight doing it like I was last night and Laren decided he wanted us to work on putting the kitchen moulding in.

So we were out in the garage (instead of exercising like I'd planned) trying to measure and cut moulding. Tyler had come out with us and grabbed a hoola hoop. He was trying to walk with the hoola hoop parallel with the length of his body and he tripped and fell landing face first (his hands didn't catch him) on the concrete floor of the garage.

Though we initially thought he was okay, I scooped him up into my arms to hug and kiss him and search for any wounds. After I got him into the kitchen I noticed a deep cut on his chin of all places.

I immediately called for Laren to come in from the garage. We gave Tyler some Children's Motrin and I called the school asking them to have Rilyn ready for me to pick up early. I grabbed Tyler's shoes and jacket and some more bandages and we raced off.

We got to the Urgent Care (in another suburb) about 40 minutes after the injury occured. Thankfully the heavy bleeding that existed initially let up quite a bit!

They saw all the blood on his shirt and took us right back. Tyler was calmed down by this time and no longer screaming. The doctor came in and numbed him up and we had a hard time keeping Tyler still for the stitches.

Finally the nurse had to hold his little head down and the doctor stitched Tyler up. I had to actually cut the stitches each time for the doctor since the nurse was holding Tyler's head for me. Tyler held still a lot better for the nurse than he did for me. Laren couldn't do much with his own "lame" leg keeping him in an awkward position. But he did manage to help calm Tyler some too.

*We have not yet gotten all the specifics about Laren's Dad, but we know he is stabilized in the hospital.

*Something good that did happen last night though is that our van finally started working for us. It barely started initially and we ran it for about an hour and a half straight and now it seems to be working fine. What a blessing!

Oh, kari, that's awful! All of it. I hope Larens dad is okay, and poor Tyler, too. That is just too much for you guys right now. I'm just glad the van is cooperating. Sheesh! Here's hoping the next few days are much better! {{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}

Oh Kari, what hard things to have to face. I hope Tyler is healing well now. Did they do those disolving stitches or will he have to go back to get them out. Keep us updated on Larens father.
